March 19 2020, Cinderella Trophy County Drama Festival David Beach Youth Competition News Original Plawriting

County Drama Festival Coordinator Philp de Glanville

As we have previously announced, this weekend’s County Drama Festival has been cancelled. It is a huge disappointment for everyone concerned as so much work has been put in my so many people and, with nine entries, this years festival was promising to be a really excellent event. The SFD committee would like to thank everyone who has worked towards the festival and we share your disappointment at that this event, along with so many others around the country, has had to be cancelled. Unfortunately, given the uncertainty of of the future restrictions that may be in place, we have no plans to try to reschedule this event for later in the year. But we very much hope we have a bumper festival in 2021! Festival Coordinator Philip de Glanville said, “I have booked the Warehouse Theatre for four sessions next year so I have asked this year’s societies to consider putting on their play next year.”

As part of the Festival we were going to announce the winner of this years Original One-Act Play Writing Competition. Instead, we will be announcing the results online here and on Facebook. The short-listed playwrights will be advised in advance of the announcement. For everyone else: Watch this space!

And, for all of you now socially distancing yourselves and finding yourselves at a loose end at home, what better to do than put pen to paper and write a play of your own. We are expecting a bumper crop of entries in next year’s competition!

The David Beach Youth Competition and the Cinderella Awards evening have both been cancelled in their traditional format. Again, a lot of work has already gone in to organising these events and the SFD committee is hugely appreciative of all that hard work.

But all is not lost! We will live stream the announcements of all the winners on the evening the events were due to happen. That means you will be able to sit in the comfort of your own home and enjoy the moment. You can still dress up in your glad rags if you want! Why not post photos of yourselves on our Facebook page? More details of how to access the live streams will be published nearer the time.

And we are today launching a new initiative to stop people going stir crazy at home. Make a Drama out of a Crisis! is an idea where you can use your creativity to make a 30 second drama and post it to our Facebook page! Look out for more details.

Finally, thank you all for your understanding at this difficult time and thank you for all your messages of support.
